“The flood has displaced communities in many counties in Unity State. But the first priority is those who are affected the most by flood”. Hon said

In his part, the chairman of Leek community in Rubkona county of Unity State Lam TungwarKueigongsaid about seven communities had been displaced by the flood and there was also need for humanitarian assistance.

“We have many communities displaced by flood in seven (7) counties of Leer, Mayiandit, Rubkona, Guit, Mayom, Bentiu, and Panyijar counties and they are in need of humanitarian assistance. So, there is need for intervention because the flood is still submerging villages and some remaining islands into water. The government in the state has tried to dig some Dyke’s to control the flood,”said Lam.

He added that the government had to intervenedin bringing12 trucks from Sudan because access to Juba was cut off by flood and even access to those counties affected by flood in Unity State was difficult.

“The only route to purchase this item is Sudan because of its accessibility to the main market,”said Lam.

MajakDhoal Lim said that they had witnessed the arrival of 12 trucks from Sudan with food and non-food items in Bentiu.

He said, the World Food Programme (WFP)was making distribution of food to the flood displaced communities in Unity State even on Saturday apart from the current food items and non-food items from the Unity State government.
