South Farmers limited, a local poultry firm has promised to increase their production by 2020 to meet the country’s demand.
Currently South Farmers keeps about ten thousand chicks in its farm, but according James Nyikole the Managing Director of the firm they were still not enough to meet the demand in Juba.
“Due to some challenges such as scarcity of feeds in Juba for the chicks, our production has been low but as we enter 2020, we will make sure we have enough feeds all time and this will enable South farmers to double its production,” he said.
James said the major challenge in poultry keeping in the country was the feeds as they are often imported from Uganda.
He said there was high demand for eggs and meat from the hotel industry in Juba which he said due to low production most chicken are imported from the neighboring countries.
South farmers recently won the best Agro business of the year during the Chambers of Commerce Quality Award which James said had motivated his team to work hard.
“We won the most prestigious award in the Chambers of Commerce Quality Awards and this has opened our eyes to work extremely hard so that we can be able to supply the entire country with our products,” he said.
South Farmers limited is one of the biggest firms in the country that deals in poultry and general farming.
