Empower disabled people

The Undersecretary in Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Esther Ekere urged the general public to empower persons with disabilities.
This was revealed during the launch of skills project for persons with disabilities yesterday at the premises of the Union of Physically Disabled for Central Equatoria State.
Speaking during the event, the Undersecretary Ekere said that the public often disregards disabled people with wrong perceptions.
“There is a misperception in our communities that a person with disability is somebody who will sit outside there to beg but we want to change that notion,” said Ekere.
She added that one of the roles of the Ministry is to developed national disability and inclusion policy.
She said the policy will help to empower person with disability in the country.
Ekere said the policy document to empower disabled persons was being reviewed last week by the Ministry.
She added that the disabled persons would be included in the development of nation.
