Eddy Kenzo shines at Uganda music awards

The Uganda Music Awards (TUMA) 2017 was held under the theme: “Real talent, Real People and Real music”. With over 1000 nominees, Eddy Kenjo was the big winner walking home with four awards including; Male Artist and Artist of the year at the inaugural edition of the Uganda Music Awards (TUMA).

The Awards were held at Kampala Serena Hotel last weekend on Friday with the aim of promoting music industry in East Africa and the African continent at large.

The “Sitya Loss” star won four of the seven categories in which he had been nominated. The singer who was not in attendance at the award gala night, won Artist of the year, best Male Artist best Urban Song of the year awards meanwhile other winners included; Irene Ntale (Winner) Best Female Artist, Best Music Video by Wantegula by Abaasa (Winner) and Best Ragga Dancehall artiste by Rabadaba  Yo Body among others winners.

The event received big attendance, though some notable musicians were absent like; Jose Chameleon, Fille, Sheebah Karubngi, Hon. Bobi Wine and Rabadaba among others.

The team leader Enock Ikiriza says that the award is about complimenting other awards to musicians by covering aspects that are missing, saying these awards were purely music.

“It is not about who is big or popular. We are not trying to compete by comparing the awards, but to complement them and cover an aspect that seems to be left out although the fans nominated, the biggest percentage of the deciding power lies at the hands of judges”, said Ikiriza.

The TUMA awards were aimed officially at awarding Ugandan artists in the Central, Northern, Western Eastern and Southern regions.
