Dr. Machar’s Juba trip hangs in the balance
The leader of South Sudan People’s Liberation Army in opposition (SPLA-IO) has not received the invitation from the UN Security Council to go to Addis Ababa.
Speaking to Juba Monitor on Phone, the spokesperson of SPLA-IO in Khartoum Puok Both Baluang said that they have not yet received any official invitation from the UN Security Council and were waiting for the same if any.
He said they heard that the UNSC would be meeting in Addis Ababa with Dr. Riek Machar before proceeding to Juba.
“We have not yet received an official invitation from the UN Security Council but in the media we heard that Machar will be having a meeting on Sunday with the UN Security Council in Juba.”
“We are still in Khartoum. There is no arrangement that have been done because there is no invitation for him to go to Addis Ababa,” he added.
On Thursday it was reported that Dr Machar was expected to come to Juba over the weekend.
The exact day for his coming was not given. However Speaking to Juba Monitor on telephone on Wednesday, Deputy Military Spokesperson for SPLA-IO, Col. Lam Paul Gabriel said that Dr. Machar would come after meeting with the UNSC team in Addis Ababa before landing to Juba.
