Cultural dances for peace conducted in Aweil

Empower Youth Africa Organization (EYA) has successfully conducted the peace cultural event in MalekAlel, Aweil Northern Bahr Ghazal State last week.

The competitive event which brought together women, youth and pastoral community was witnessed by state governmentofficials and community leaders.

Speaking during the event Fr, TuotouMouAgout Acting Commissioner of Aweil South County thanked the Empower Youth Africa for having conducted the program which promotes peace.

Mou urged the groups who participated in the traditional dances to continually practice the cultural dances saying it is a symbol for communities pride in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

“The traditional dances include Dany, Maabook, Malual, Gonand Ayakdit communities and these are the most traditional dances in our state,”he said.

The Acting Commissioner called on the entire community of Aweil South County to promote peace and security in the state.

GarangAthian Deng, Executive Director of Empower Youth Africa said that the project is a youth initiative program for peace funded by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) meant to allow youth to live in peace and harmony among themselves.

“The project will not only last for cultural activities but with more upcoming activities including generated activities, sports peace events and other things,”Athian promised.

Athain said youth, women, pastoralists and local Chiefs will be the direct beneficiaries of the project.

MangokWekAteny, the area Paramount Chiefthanked the organization for contributing to the local community.
