Country mourns Supreme Court Judge

South Sudan is mourning the death of the Supreme Court Judge, Justice Aleu Akechak Jok who passed on in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Monday.

The Judiciary yesterday announced the passing on of the Supreme Court Judge in a public announcement received by the Juba Monitor.

“The Judiciary of South Sudan and the entire legal fraternity of South Sudan are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Justice Aleu Akechak Jok which occurred in Cairo- Egypt on Monday 02nd July 2018,” an announcement from the Chief Justice Chan Reech Madut read.

No details were given about the cause of his death.

The deceased had served his country wholeheartedly for many years in the judicial profession and will surely be remembered for his sincerity and fairness,” the Chief Justice said.

Before his death, justice Aleu was Justice of the Supreme Court of South Sudan.

“The judiciary of South Sudan extends its condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, friends and acquaintances of the deceased. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace and happiness,” Justice Madut said.

Justice Aleu Akechak Jok was the author of a study of Customary Law in the Contemporary Southern Sudan.
