The National Bureau of Standards in collaboration with Juba City Council plan to deploy a team to crackdown and impound counterfeit goods in the market.
The team will be specifically tasked with the responsibility of seizing expired and unchecked goods at the borders and other entry points.
The National Bureau of Standards will also work closely with the City Council to carry out the operation.
Speaking to journalists at the Juba City Council offices yesterday, Majak Deng Kuol, Executive Director of the National Bureau of Standard said all the imported food must meet the set standards.
He said the issue of standards is the collective responsibility of the agency and the Juba City Council and other sectors like the private sector.
“So, we want to coordinate with the Juba City Council in order to protect our people and also to make sure that everything meets the standards,” Mr. Majak said.
Mogga Laki Morbe, Director of Juba Block Council, said it is good for the NBS to work with Juba City Council especially in the market.
He said most commodities are not standardized and some stores keep such goods.
Mogga said there have been some monitoring systems of the market flow or mechanisms.
