Citizens urge gov’t to suspend UN flights due to coronavirus

Some citizens in Juba are calling on the government to suspend United Nations flights from landing in Juba over Coronavirus.

The government had already temporarily suspended flights from all coronavirus affected countries including Egypt and Dubai.

Simon Lual Bol said the movement of UN forces from country to country would easily spread coronavirus to South Sudanese.

“We call upon government to suspend their movement so that people will be safe from the virus. We want government to do something,” Lual said.

Thong-piny residents, Malou Malual said he was much disappointed to see UN flights still landing in Juba.

“Let the government suspend their flights like what happened to Egyptian Airways and Dubai,” Malual said.

Kur Kuol Ajieu, Director for Juba International Airport confirmed that the United Nations contingency flights still continue to land at Juba International Airport.

He affirms that the flight decided to come back from Rwanda capital Kigali to Juba.

 “Sometimes the Ministry of Health is observing very keenly from all countries that are affected by the virus. Currently those of flight Dubai are complaining why they were suspended while flights from countries that have confirmed coronavirus cases especially Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Sudan,” Kuol said.
