The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization said it has established a WhatsApp group called ‘National Support for Flood Victims’ as a response to the waves of flooding facing the country.

Speaking to Juba Monitor, Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director for CEPO said that the organization set up the group to initiate nationalwide fundraising to support Flood-stricken areas while at the same time asking every citizen to contribute to the course. “As a CEPO, we have established a WhatsApp group called ‘National Support for Flood Victims, so this one we established it simply because we are responding to flood facing the country,” said Yakani.

Mr. Yakani stated that the group has so far registered more than 50 members who have contributed $1000 and five bags of second-hand clothes and appealed to all citizens in their respective capacities to take the responsibility by urgently responding to the call.

“I am asking the citizens in their various capacities, government officials, private sector and individuals to put their hands together and join us to contribute in support of our people who are suffering due to flood,” he said.

He also mentioned that the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management had also contributed.

Since last month, flood has affected many parts of the country with its devastating effects bearing heavily on the citizens.
