The Catholic based Humanitarian agency-Caritas South Sudan yesterday celebrated its three years of humanitarian service in the country with calls to raise more fund to support the needy.

Caritas Day is celebrated annually in all the dioceses in South Sudan to raise awareness about the organization’s humanitarian work as well as lobby for fund to support the needy.

Since its international recognition in 2015, the organization has been supporting the most vulnerable group especially students who have not been able to meet their school requirements.

His Grace Paulino Lokudu Loro the archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Juba called on the organization’s management to work towards serving the need of the people.

“It is a question of service. Take the service to the people,” Lokudu said.

He called on the staff of the organization to be very serious in carrying out the activities of the organization.

Gabriel Yol Kuol, the Executive Director of the organization said the organization has developed a four-year strategic plan that will guide its activities and programs.

Kuol said one of the major plans of the organization was to respond to emergencies throughout the country but lack of funding could derail its activities.

He appealed to other organizations and individuals of good will to support the activities of the organization.

“The biggest challenge we have is funding. We have been mobilizing resources through the confederation and also the members of Caritas but we also think that we need to do something locally. We need people to support Caritas activities,” he added.

As part of the celebrations, Archbishop Lokudu planted a commemoration tree around Caritas compound.

The staff also contributed a sum of SSP 300,000 to help support other activities they spearheaded as an organization.
