About 30 cases of mental illness registered daily at Juba hospital

At least thirty cases of mental illness are registered at Juba Teaching Hospital on daily basis, the Director of Mental Health has said.
Dr. Atong Ayuel Longar said the hospital receives twenty to thirty cases every two days during official working hours. She dislcsoed that the hospital is capable of treating patients with mental illness. She added that they had the capability for treating any case of these kind.
“Any person who has a mental problem can come to the hospital as early as possible before it becomes serious,” Dr. Atong said.
She stressed that the hospital always tried its level best to treat the patients despite numerous challenges they are facing. “We lack drugs, and we also lack better facilitates for medication and there is no enough care for the patients,” Dr. Atong divulged.
She also said sometimes the hospital purchases some essential drugs for treating patients with mental illness from pharmacies outside , adding that the cases of patients with mental illness had reduced compared to previous months.
Dr. Atong urged those taking care of people with mental illness to report their cases to the hospital for treatment before it entered a critical stage.
large numbers of people with mental illness have been reported at Juba Teaching Hospital in the aftermath of the December 2013 conflict, which has entered its fourth year.
