A team of Chinese medical experts arrived Juba

A team of eight Chinese medical experts and other 15 assistants arrived Juba, South Sudan yesterday.

The medical experts and their supporting members will be in the country for nine days to conducts trainings program for South Sudanese medical staff and assist to evaluate the pandemic situation and work to improve South Sudan respond capacity.

The Team which came together with China Harbor and Shandong Hi-speed engineers’ staff,  as well as accompanying two tones medical equipment donated by Chinese Government to South Sudan. The donation which includes ventilators, oximeters, medicines and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) will be handed to the Ministry of Health.

Speaking to the media at the Airport, the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Hua Ning said The Chinese medical professionals came as a request placed upon by the Government in Juba to send medical experts to the South Sudan.

He said it was not first time for China to offer medical support to South Sudan.

The Team and the donated medical supplies were received by the Minister of Health Elizabeth Acuei Yol.

“At the request of South Sudanese Government, the Chinese decided to send a concrete action to implement the results of relevant conferences and promote the China-Africa community of shared health,” Ambassador Ning said.

He expressed that the fight against Covid-19 was still a long way to go saying authorities should consider people and their lives as a priority.

“Covid-19 is still affecting many parts of the world, which means fighting against covid-19 is a long and protracted battle. We must always put people and their lives front and center,” he added.

The Diplomat revealed that the medical professionals who are from different fields have experience in the Chinese fights against Covid-19.  

 “The Chinese Medical Experts Team to South Sudan is composed of 8 medical experts from Anhui Province, including experts in the fields of respiration, infection, intensive care, public health, laboratory testing and nursing. They have all fought on the front line of China’s anti Covid-19 battles, and have excellent professional skills and rich experience,” Said Ambassador Ning.

He said the Government of China is committed to support South Sudan and would continue to maintain bilateral cooperation.

The Minister of Health thanked the Chinese government for supporting the country especially during the wake of coronavirus.

“We are so honored to receive the medical team, and this not even the first from the Government of China to extend their assistance to the people of South Sudan,” Acuei Said.
