Topical Commentary

With Odongo Odoyo

The topic of interest we were discussing during the cock-tail party hosted by one of the top diplomat recently was the massive enquiries over the possible investments in the country. From one point to another as we move and chat among ourselves, those who were being hosted and the host. All indicators were very clear. All investors who ran away and new entrants were knocking the doors ready to come in for continuity and new avenues. It was time to become a roving ambassador among the guests and our host. We decided with a friend and colleague to take the existing opportunity to exhibit expertise experiences that have come with us this far. The inner being told us that this was a God sent opportunity to let the world know how many good things can come out of South Sudan. The notion that only guns and malnourished situation was the order of the day must be sent out through the window and the real good situation of encouraging developments for the good of the people and the country be given prominence and be placed in the list of first priorities. Together with my friend, we started in slow motion movements but shifted the gear to high number to be heard. Truly, our intention was getting momentum and there are a number of those in the diplomatic circles who believe and agree that there is something good that can be found and achieved if all were put in their right perspectives. This is why a number of foreign diplomatic missions in the country are taking new queue and venturing into new dispensation of sending positive messages to their countries of origin that in a month or two things will be working and those intending to invest or revamp their old ventures were free to come and do just that. We would go with classic minds that see things the way they are. It is a break-up from the old thought and thinking that dominated the world at the international arena. It is a divorce from that because what is going on in the country was the message of peace. What is going on right now is the utilization of the think-tanks and effective participation of the National Dialogue which was the brain-child of President Salva Kiir and which at that time some critics and doubtful minds termed as “stillbirth” and in which they have been proved wrong by all situations. People must start accepting the reality for effective move forward instead of stagnating in the middle of the mud forever. There must be a time to think of waking up from the fearful night dream because it is not true. For some people amongst the general public night dream here is that they have not come to terms with the actual reality that peace has come to be with us and those still dreaming must wake up from their sleep. It is time to make sure that we all become roving ambassadors for the country, going from one place to the other portraying positive image in all dispensations of future life. There must be a starting point to move forward, that point starts somewhere and that somewhere is you. Be the ambassador of peace for the country and all nations. For my friend and colleague who together we took to the ambassadorial mission on our own, let us not get tired and let us incorporate those friends who are of the same mind and thinking into preaching the most powerful word that is peace. Not only here but throughout the country.
