Strange disease kills seven people in Kapoeta State

By Mandela Nelson Denis

A strange disease has been reported to have killed seven people in Kapoeta State late last month.

According to Peter Lokale the Jie Administrative Officer, said the disease killed seven people in his community.

“A very strange disease having symptoms of fever has already killed seven people in my state , women and one man all ranging from the age of 28 years to 35years,” Peter said.

The Minister of Health of Kapoeta State, Lorika Stella confirmed to Juba Monitor yesterday that seven people have lost their lives due to the strange disease.

She said the cases were reported to the national Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO) in Juba who then sent a team to Kapoeta State last week to investigate.

“I reported it to the national Ministry of Health and World Health Organization in Juba and a team came to my state on Wednesday and went with my health team to Jie on Thursday and took some samples and we are waiting for the results from the team,” Lorika said.

According to the community leader Peter Lokale, there is no health center in the Jie area, making it difficult to manage outbreaks of diseases in the community.

He appealed to the concerned Ministry to ensure that there are health centers in Jie and across Kapoeta State.

Kapoeta State is one of the 32 states of South Sudan. It is located in the Equatoria region and is bordering Imotong to the west, Boma to the north, Ethiopia to the east, and Kenya and Uganda to the South.
