SPLM/A-IO Gatkouth faction rejoins Government

The South Sudanese People’s liberation Army in Opposition governing council that broke away from the faction of General Taban Deng Gai have presented its request to rejoin the government’s ruling SPLM party.
In a letter dated the 16th of September 2019 addressed to the acting Secretary General of the SPLM-Jeema Nunu Kumba, they declared interests to rejoin the SPLM Party under the chairmanship of Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The group led by former labour minister Gatkuoth Gatkuoth had protested the decision of Frist Vice President Taban Deng Gai to dissolve the SPLM-IO in government to rejoin the SPLM mainstream last year.
The letter written by Otim David Okot, requested the office of Jeema Nunu Kumba to make arrangements accordance with the SPLM constitution of 2008 amended in 2016 to officially formalize processes for them to rejoin the mother party.
General Gathoth Gathouth Hothnyang the interim Chairman of SPLM-IO in Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) also in a letter extended to Juba Monitor expressed the group’s commitment to the unity of SPLM from the grassroots to the national level.
“We therefore, have decided to immediately dissolve the SPLM-IO interim governing council with immediate effect from the date of this letter and have decided to rejoin the main mother SPLM party, we have committed ourselves to work together with comrade Kiir Mayadrit, Chairman, Commander in Chief of the SSPDF, shall adhere and abide by the principles,” part of the letter reads.
The letter was also signed by fifteen national Members of Parliament, sixteen leaders and representatives from the states, thirteen Military and Security leaders at their extended meeting of the SPLM/A-IO in ( TGoNU) Interim Governing Council held in Juba.
