About 4,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have returned to Southern Liech State, it has been confirmed.
Speaking to Juba Monitor on phone from Leer State yesterday, Southern Liech Information Minister, Nyuon Joseph said the IDPs were from different Protection of Civilians Sites (PoCs) including Bentiu, Juba and Wau.
“We are thankful to receive such a good numbers of our citizens who fled to the United Nations protection of civilians sites due to the war,” he said.
“This peace is real and we urge those who are still in the IDPs camps to come, home,” Joseph said.
The minister said the most important thing was for the community to embrace peace despite being at home or at the PoCs.
He said life in the PoCs was not easy according to reports they were getting from those returning home.
“The IDPs revealed that there were rampant inter-communal tensions in the PoCs ,” he said.
However, the minister said all those who returned home were being supported by the humanitarian organizations including United Nations Refugee Agency.
Joseph said the governor had pledged maximum commitment to provide necessary protection to those coming back home.
Minister Joseph said majority of those who returned home from the PoCs were women and children.
