Machar coming to Juba if set free by IGAD – Spokesperson

Opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar will not come to Juba if he is not released by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) said the Spokesperson.
Puok Both Baluong, SPLM-IO Director for Information and Public Relations told Juba Monitor on phone from Sudan that Dr. Riek’s second face to face meeting with Kiir in Juba will only be possible if his detention is lifted by IGAD.
“Riek is still under house arrest, we came to Juba in September upon request of President Salva Kiir Mayardit. The next meeting depends on his (Riek’s) release by the IGAD,” Both said.
“If Riek is released, this will be the only reason that will take him to Juba. He is under house arrest and he is not allowed to move freely,” he added.
However, media reports say the two leaders will meet in Juba next week to discuss outstanding issues including boundary and number of states.
Baluong said Kiir and Riek were supposed to meet last week but failed because some stakeholders traveled to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
President Kiir and Dr. Riek met face to face in Juba last month and agreed to form the Transitional Government of National Unity on November 12 this year.
The two leaders however could not reach common grounds on boundary and number of states.
When contacted for comment on the matter, Ateny Wek Ateny said he was not aware about the meeting because he was out of Juba.
“I am not aware. I am not in Juba now,” Ateny said on phone.
