By Wek Atak Kacjang

At least five people were killed and one injured in Pagol County of Tonj on Wednesday, said official.

Speaking to Juba Monitor yesterday, Tonj State Information Minister William Wol Mayom has accused forces loyal to Dr Riek Machar for being behind the attack.

He said the attackers came from Alingo area of Wau State.

“We have evidence that shows the attacker belongs to Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition [SPLA-IO],” he said.

He said military uniforms belonging to Dr. Riek’s forces were discovered on ground, “Badges of military rank for Major General and Brigadier General marked SPLA-IO was discovered at the scene,” Mayom explained.

He said it was not right for the SPLA-IO to continue looting and attack civil population.

“I do not know why the SPLA-IO should attack civilians while we are in peace,” Mayom asked.

Minister Mayom urged the SPLA-IO to respect the revitalized-peace agreement

He condemned the killing of innocent civilians and expressed his solidarity with the families of the deceased.

Mayom revealed that it was the second time the SPLA-IO had attacked civilians in the area he said last month 13-year-old boy was killed by the SPLA-IO.

However, attempts to reach SPLA-IO Deputy spokesperson for comment were futile by press time.
