Authorities in Duk Padiet County of Jonglei State have decried worsening health situation in the area.
Elijah Manyok, the Acting County commissioner said the health facilities in the area have run out of live-saving medicines since June.
“The locals have resorted to the use of herbal medicines since June. Nine people have so far died of malaria cases,” he said.
“No drug supplies for the last two and a half months. The suppliers stopped since the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) pulled out from the area,” Manyok said.
Manyok revealed that other private clinics did not have drugs too, adding that the situation has been worsened by the recent floods.
The County official appealed to the government and aid agencies operating in the country to intervene in order to rescue the lives of the locals in Duk Padiet.
“We are appealing to the government through the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and other partners to come and assess the situation on ground. It is actually very horrible,” Manyok stressed.
